Greenery: Energize your patio with the color of 2017

A bright young leaf in Spring reminds us of nature’s promise: that everything old will be new again. Pantone’s Color of 2017 gives a whole new meaning to “green development.”

The color is called Greenery, and it reflects that hopeful feeling one gets from making a fresh start. Pretty up your patio with its energetic-yet-cool spirit for a perfectly positive Spring season.

Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of Pantone’s Color Institute, says Greenery holds within it a vital idea. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize,” Ms. Eiseman notes on the Pantone site, “Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose.” http://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2017

Just like a fragrant Spring day, the Greenery color is a light, creative green that animates and energizes its surroundings. Think recently-sprouted grass, budding trees, or fresh moss on river rocks drying in the sun, and you’ll get the sense that Greenery evokes.

You can incorporate this crisp-celery green into your patio in a few different ways. Chair cushions are a quick way to brighten up your patio furniture. Any large swaths of fabric like curtains or tablecloths in a Greenery palette will immediately bring your Hardscape up to date. And since many of your paver stones have multiple natural shades, including green, woven into their color, there’s no need to worry whether or not this new hue will contrast with the Hardscape. It will fit in beautifully and will probably help you notice the green in your pavers. Take a look at EP Henry’s Chiseled Stone in Slate Green or the Devonstone pavers in Green Pennsylvania Bluestone.

Another easy, no-sew way to add Greenery to your outdoor room is to drape a retaining wall with a long length of fabric. Fold in the raw edges and secure the fabric every few feet to the pavers, leaving the fabric in between to billow nicely below. Potted plants of veggies and herbs at the pinpoints can extend the green and add more life and movement to the scene.

The quickest way to add this vivacious green to your backyard cookout is to simply get your party supplies and accessories in this color. Check online or at your local supply store for recyclable plastic plates, silverware and placemats in “Greenery” shades. Filling up the scene with a cool green is a nice way to remind your family and friends that Spring will come, no matter what.

Color is known to affect mood. Pantone calls Greenery a “life-affirming shade.” Give it a try, and you may just have some spring in your step in these last winter months.
